To improve content discoverability, SEO performance, and user navigation, I led the redesign of the mega menus for both Jumbo.com and De Volksbank’s retail websites. The challenge was to create a more intuitive, structured, and scalable menu that aligned with both user needs and business objectives, while ensuring consistency across multiple platforms.
Client:

My Role:

Year:
2021 + 2023
Service Provided:
UX Design, Information Architecture, A/B Testing
Explore & define:
The project began with an exploration phase, where I led card sorting exercises with users to gather insights and validate navigation patterns. To ensure an optimal structure, I conducted benchmarking studies based on my earlier mega menu design for Jumbo.com, combining user behavior analysis with SEO strategies. Additionally, I worked closely with stakeholders across marketing, content, and e-commerce teams to align their needs with user expectations.
Ideate & prototype:
During the ideation and prototyping phase, I developed responsive prototypes using existing design system components, ensuring scalability and ease of maintenance for both organizations. Through stakeholder workshops, I refined the menu structures based on user insights, analytics, and internal feedback.
Testing:
For the testing phase, I collaborated with developers to ensure seamless implementation and introduced A/B testing through Google Optimize to measure the impact on user navigation and engagement metrics. I also created guidelines for content editors to manage and optimize the menu structure moving forward.
Results & Learnings:
Aligned stakeholders with a clear and data-driven navigation strategy
Improved navigation efficiency, reducing time spent searching
Increased page views on content pages, boosting SEO performance
Key learning: User insights should always guide decision-making, and continuous education within the business is crucial for success
This project showcased the impact of user-driven design and data-informed decision-making, reinforcing the importance of structured navigation in driving both business and customer success.
